Tech Chat | How to measure AB guidance line for auto-steering systems?


When using an auto-steering system for farming tasks, the first thing is to create the route. In common Straight line mode, normally we will drive the tractor to the start of the line to mark point A, and drive to the end of the line to mark point B. Then the software will generate the auto-steering route based on these two points.

However, in some large farms, it is a big waste of fuel to drive across the farm just to generate the route. That’s why we need a portable GNSS terminal to measure the AB line and import to the auto-steering system. Meanwhile, a portable GNSS receiver can also help farmers to measure the boundary of farms and plots for smart management.

In this blog, we will introduce how to use a portable GNSS receiver to help generate the auto-steering route.

Preparation:

  • SAgro100 automated steering system.
  • A portable GNSS terminal, such as P1 GNSS receiver, T8 Pro tablet, Y1 GNSS receiver, etc.
  • SingularPad field surveying software.

Step 1: Measure AB line

Create a new project and set the Ellipsoid Parameter as WGS-84. For other settings, you can directly keep the default value.

Connect your portable terminal to SingularPad software and get a fixed RTK solution. For the detailed operation, please refer to the YouTube tutorial videos:

Click Tools >> AB Line, move to the start of the guidance line to click to measure point A, then go to measure the point B.

Step 2: Export AB line

Click Export to export the AB line file. If you are using SAgro100 automated steering system, please select the file type as *.ini. If you are using other auto-steering systems, you can select the *.shp file format.

Step 3: Import AB line

Copy the AB line file into an USB and insert the USB into T10 tablet.

Open SAgro100 system software, click AB >> Manage >> USB to import an existing AB line via USB. And you can start auto-steering tasks now.
