Tech Chat | How to calculate & divide the plot area based on measured/known points?

In land surveying projects, we often need to count the area of different plots. When the shape of the plot is irregular, it will take more effort to calculate its area. In today's blog, we will introduce a simple way in SingularPad software of how to calculate the area of a plot and how to divide the plot according to a specific area in the field.

How to calculate the area of a plot?

To identify a plot, you need to set its boundaries first. Go to SingularPad >> Tools >> Perimeter and Area, add points to set the plot boundary.
You can click Button Library to add measured points as boundary or import known points.

Tip: If your point names are in the same format, the software will automatically recognize the numbering sequence to generate the plot. Otherwise, the plot will be generated according to the order in which the points were added.

After adding points, you can go to the Preview Map to see if the plot was generated correctly. The perimeter and area will also be calculated and displayed in the software.

How to divide a plot by a certain size?

After the plot is generated, the plot can be divided into several small blocks according to a certain area.

Method 1: Divide by point

In this method, the software draws a line from the point you select to divide the plot by the size you enter.

Select the point you need in the map, then a text box will appear in the bottom bar, fill in the required area (unit: m2) and click the confirm button, the map will divide the plot according to the area.

The coordinates of the divide points will be saved in the point library, you can stake out the point in the Point Stakeout function.

Method 2: Divide by line

In this method, the software draws a parallel line from the line you select to divide the plot by the size you enter.

In addition to the area calculator, SingularPad also has many other useful functions, which will be introduced in future blogs.
