Test Report | Sfaira ONE Performance in Different Environments

In this test report, we evaluate the performance of the Sfaira ONE Series GNSS receiver, based on detailed testing conducted by our user Ari Kilpelä, D.Sc., CEO of Dimense Oy. Our goal is to share insights into its accuracy, precision, and tilt compensation capabilities in different environments.

Test Environment and Methodology

The test was conducted in Oulu, Finland, encompassing a backyard and park area approximately 10 km north of the city. The site included an old low building and was surrounded by trees such as spruces, birches, and high pines, providing varying levels of signal obstruction.

Equipment and Software Used:

  • Device: Sfaira ONE Plus GNSS Receiver
  • Field Software: SingularPad Field Surveying Software

Measurement Procedure:

  • Measurements were taken with the pole adjusted to 0 degrees and tilted 15 degrees to the south, north, east, and west.
  • Each angle measurement was averaged from 5 shots.
  • The coordinate systems used were ETRS-TM35FIN and ETRSGK26, with the geoid file FIN2005N00.

Performance in Various Conditions

Open Areas:

In open areas, the Sfaira ONE was highly reliable, obtaining RTK FIX with minimal deviations. The standard deviation was consistently low, showing stable and accurate performance. The average position accuracy without tilt was within ±1 cm, and the accuracy of tilt surveying at 15° in different directions was ±4cm.

Partially Obstructed Areas:

In areas with moderate tree and house coverage, the Sfaira ONE still performed well, with average positioning accuracy without tilt below 1 cm and tilt surveying accuracy below ±4cm. The standard deviation remained low, indicating high precision and consistency in moderately obstructed environments.

Heavily Obstructed Areas:

In heavily obstructed environments, the Sfaira ONE maintained reasonable accuracy, with average positional deviations around ±2 cm without tilt survey. When tilting the pole at 15°, the horizontal accuracy maintained as ±4cm and the vertical accuracy is within 10cm. Despite the challenging conditions, the device demonstrated effectiveness in maintaining accuracy.

Summary of Findings

  • High Accuracy: The Sfaira ONE consistently delivered high accuracy in open and moderately obstructed areas.
  • Reliable Tilt Compensation: The tilt compensation feature worked effectively, ensuring minimal deviation even with the pole tilted.
  • Stable Performance: The standard deviation remained low, highlighting the device's precision and stability.

Conclusion

The Sfaira ONE GNSS device proves to be a highly reliable and accurate tool for various surveying and measurement tasks. Its robust performance in both open and obstructed environments, along with effective tilt compensation, makes it suitable for diverse applications.
