Tech Chat | Code Library Workflow (Part 3):
Fast Codes for Efficient Survey Workflows
2025-07-29
Charlie Latchford

Following Part 1 (how to create code libraries) and Part 2 (using codes and managing string numbers in the field), this final post in the series explores the Fast Code functionality in SingularPad — designed to significantly speed up survey workflows that involve repeated code entry, such as road cross-sections or topographic transects.

1. Enabling Fast Code Mode

Fast Codes allow the user to pre-configure a set of frequently used codes — each with its own string number — and then access them with a single tap during fieldwork.

To enable the Fast Code interface:

  • In the Points Survey Menu, select the Settings icon

  • Add Fast Code Survey to the displayed items

  • Tap OK to save

Once enabled, a new icon will appear in the ribbon, indicating the Fast Code panel is active, waiting for the user to add a code.

2. Creating Fast Codes

Tap the Fast Code icon, then tap the “+” icon and the Code List will open, prompting for user input.

Once the code is selected, there will be an extra panel with the string number.

Users can create and manage multiple Fast Code entries for the current project.

3. Editing the Fast Code List

To modify existing Fast Codes, tap and hold on a Fast Code icon to open the edit menu. This allows the user to undertake a number of different options.

3.1 Changing the String Number

Selecting the Pen icon in the top left corner allows the user to increase the string number

3.2 Deleting a Fast Code

Tap the minus icon in the upper-right corner to remove the code from the list.

3.3 Reordering Fast Codes

Tap and hold a code. Once the box turns red, you can drag it to rearrange its position.

4. Benefits of Fast Codes in the Field

Using Fast Codes allows the surveyor to:

  • Quickly apply predefined codes during repeated measurements

  • Automatically track string numbers for connected features

  • Eliminate repetitive scrolling/searching through long code lists

  • Speed up field data collection for structured survey types

This makes Fast Codes especially useful in:

  • Road cross-section mapping

  • Drainage or utility network surveys

  • Rapid topographic sketching

  • Projects with standardised coding structures

Final Thoughts

The Code Library, String Number Control, and Fast Code functions in SingularPad give surveyors powerful tools to enhance field productivity, consistency, and downstream processing quality.

We hope this three-part blog series helps you get the most out of your SingularPad workflows
